Trauma Counselling in Croydon
Experiences of trauma can be deeply personal, and there is no single way that someone should think or feel following a difficult or distressing experience. If you would like somewhere confidential to explore what you have experienced and how it is affecting you, counselling can provide dedicated time and space to talk without judgement.
Care To Listen provides affordable trauma counselling in Croydon through a diverse team of qualified and trainee counsellors. As a registered counselling charity, our aim is to make professional, accessible support available to people who may otherwise find the cost of private trauma therapy difficult to manage.
You can access counselling for trauma in person at our Addiscombe practice in Croydon or online via a secure platform. You do not need to decide which therapeutic approach you want before contacting us - an initial assessment gives you an opportunity to discuss your circumstances and the support available.
A Safe Space to Explore Trauma
Talking about difficult experiences can feel daunting. Trauma counselling gives you a confidential, non-judgemental setting where you can explore what you are experiencing at your own pace with the support of a counsellor.
You may be seeking counselling following a particular experience, or because past experiences continue to affect how you feel in the present. Care To Listen also supports people experiencing anxiety, depression, bereavement, stress, low self-esteem and relationship difficulties, alongside trauma and other emotional and mental health concerns.
Our approach does not assume that everybody needs the same type of trauma therapy. We provide different talking therapies and therapeutic approaches, giving you the opportunity to discuss your needs and explore the counselling available.
Trauma Therapy and Talking Therapies
Care To Listen provides a range of talking therapies that offer different ways to explore thoughts, feelings, experiences and patterns.
Our counselling service includes integrative counselling and psychodynamic counselling, while our wider therapeutic approaches also include CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy).
Rather than expecting you to choose between these approaches before making contact, we begin with an initial assessment where you can discuss what has brought you to counselling.
This can be particularly important when looking for counselling for trauma. Your experiences are individual to you, and the first step is having an opportunity to talk about the support you are seeking rather than trying to determine the right approach alone.
Trauma CBT and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT, or cognitive behavioural therapy, is one of the therapeutic approaches available through Care To Listen.
Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Trauma CBT can provide a way of exploring patterns connected with how you think, feel and respond following difficult experiences.
CBT sits alongside the other talking therapies available through our counselling service. If you are interested in cognitive behavioural therapy but are unsure whether it is appropriate for you, this can be discussed as part of your initial assessment.
Psychodynamic Counselling for Trauma
Psychodynamic counselling provides an opportunity to explore experiences and patterns that may be influencing how you feel or relate to other people.
Within trauma counselling, this can provide space to explore past and present experiences and consider the connections that feel important to you. The work takes place within a confidential therapeutic relationship, giving you time to talk and reflect without pressure to have immediate answers.
Care To Listen offers psychodynamic counselling alongside other therapeutic approaches, allowing your starting point to be what you are experiencing and the support you need.
Counselling for PTSD and Post-Traumatic Stress
People searching for trauma therapy may also be looking for counselling in relation to PTSD or post-traumatic stress.
If you are seeking counselling for PTSD, post-traumatic stress or the impact of other traumatic experiences, you can contact Care To Listen to discuss your circumstances and whether our counselling service is appropriate for your needs.
There are some circumstances where Care To Listen may not be the appropriate provider, including a serious mental health crisis requiring secondary care. Our full self-referral and exclusion criteria are available on our counselling page and should be reviewed before arranging an initial assessment.
