Frequently Asked Questions
We provide support for issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement, relationships, trauma, low self-esteem, workplace pressures, and life transitions. Our counsellors are Integrative so they will be trained in, and use a mix of Person Centred therapy, psychodynamic and CBT.
Counselling can help if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, have issues with forming relationships or simply need a confidential space to talk and gain clarity. We see a wide variety of reasons why clients seek counselling.
Yes. Everything you share is confidential, except in rare cases where there is a risk of serious harm or where we are legally required to seek advice. We also take safeguarding seriously and may need to make a referral if we have any concerns.
Yes. We offer secure online counselling, and face to face sessions, you can choose what suits you and your availability.
Sessions 50 minutes and are held weekly. In some circumstances, we may be able to offer fortnightly counselling.
This varies from person to person. Initially we offer our clients 12 sessions, but you will receive a review with your counsellor around week 9. A further 12 sessions may be suggested.
Our fees vary dependant on your earnings, as a Charity, all fee donations go towards running our service, as we are not for profit.
Our fees range from £25 to £45 for personal therapy.
Couples Counselling is £70 per session.
Our neurodiverse service is £45 per session.
We work with both trainee counsellors who are working towards qualification, and qualified professionals, some of whom are accredited. However, all counsellors must be registered with organisations such as the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) or UK Council for Psychotherapy. They are also insured and receive clinical supervision.
We will source a counsellor for you, dependant on your needs assessed in your initial assessment and based on your availability.
Appointment availability varies, but we could offer an initial assessment within 24 hours of your enquiry, whereas most clients tend to allow a few days to find a better suited time. Following that assessment, we aim to have you in regular sessions around 2 weeks later.
We offer couples counselling, but our service is currently only available to adults aged 18 and over.

We welcome self-referrals from anyone who feels they could benefit from therapeutic support. However, there may be certain situations where Care To Listen is not the most suitable service.
We kindly ask you to review the criteria below before booking an initial assessment, so we can ensure you are directed to the most appropriate support as once booked and undertaken, our initial assessments are non-refundable.
Are experiencing a serious mental health crisis that requires secondary care (e.g. psychosis)
Have made a suicide attempt within the past 6 months
Are using alcohol, drugs, or other substances that would prevent you from engaging with counselling
Are currently receiving or require specialist support for an eating disorder
Have a current diagnosis of a personality disorder
Are currently training to be a counsellor
Are based outside the UK
Do you require home visits
