Bereavement Counselling in Croydon

Bereavement and loss are deeply personal experiences. There is no single way you should feel or a set way you should respond. If you would like somewhere confidential to talk about what you are going through, bereavement counselling can give you dedicated time and space to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences without judgement.

Care To Listen provides affordable bereavement counselling in Croydon through a diverse team of qualified and trainee counsellors. As a registered counselling charity, we work to make professional, accessible support available to people who may find the cost of private bereavement therapy difficult to manage.

You can access counselling for bereavement in person at our Addiscombe practice in Croydon or online via a secure platform. You do not need to decide which type of therapy you want before contacting us - an initial assessment gives you an opportunity to discuss your circumstances and the support available.

Counselling After Loss

Loss can affect people in different ways, and what you want from counselling will be individual to you. You may want to talk about the person you have lost, explore difficult feelings or simply have somewhere you can speak openly about what you are experiencing.

Counselling after loss provides a confidential setting where you can talk at your own pace. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to discuss or how to describe what you are feeling.

Care To Listen already supports people experiencing bereavement alongside anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, low self-esteem and relationship difficulties. Our aim is to offer a safe and non-judgemental environment where your individual experiences can be heard and explored.

How Can Counselling for Bereavement Support You?

Bereavement counselling gives you time specifically set aside to talk about your experiences with a counsellor. For some people, this may involve exploring the loss itself. For others, counselling may provide space to consider the wider thoughts, feelings, relationships or experiences surrounding their bereavement.

There is no expectation that you should feel a particular way or reach a particular point within a set period. Bereavement therapy provides a space for you to explore what is happening for you as an individual.

You may also find that loss connects with other difficulties in your life. Our wider counselling service supports a range of emotional and mental health concerns, allowing you to discuss your circumstances rather than having to fit your experiences into a particular category before asking for support.

Bereavement Therapy and Talking Therapies

train to be a counsellor

Care To Listen provides a range of talking therapies, giving clients different ways to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Our counselling services include integrative and psychodynamic counselling, while our wider therapeutic approaches also include CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). These approaches offer different ways of working, and you do not need to choose one before making contact.

When you arrange an initial assessment for bereavement therapy, you can discuss what has brought you to counselling and learn more about the support available through Care To Listen.

Bereavement CBT and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT, or cognitive behavioural therapy, is one of the therapeutic approaches available through Care To Listen.

Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Within counselling for bereavement, this can provide a way to explore patterns connected with how you think, feel and respond following a loss.

Bereavement CBT is one option within the broader range of talking therapies available through our counselling service. If you are considering CBT but are unsure whether it is an appropriate approach for you, this can be discussed during your initial assessment.

Psychodynamic Counselling for Bereavement

Psychodynamic counselling provides an opportunity to explore experiences and patterns that may be influencing how you feel or relate to others.

When you are seeking counselling after loss, a psychodynamic approach can give you space to explore your experiences in greater depth and consider connections between past and present that feel important to you.

Care To Listen provides psychodynamic counselling alongside other therapeutic approaches. This means you can begin with your own experiences and needs rather than having to select a particular form of bereavement therapy by yourself.

Affordable Bereavement Counselling

Accessing counselling should not automatically depend on being able to afford the cost of private therapy. Care To Listen is a charity provider of affordable counselling, and making therapy more financially accessible is central to our service.

Our affordable bereavement counselling is delivered through qualified and trainee counsellors. Clients are asked to donate what they can comfortably afford within suggested ranges based on their earnings and income.

This approach helps us continue providing low-cost bereavement therapy and other affordable counselling services to people in the local community.

For integrative counselling, assessments are £25. Suggested donations are £25 to £40 for daytime sessions and £30 to £45 for evening sessions.

For psychodynamic counselling, assessments are £25. Suggested donations are £30 to £40 for daytime sessions and £35 to £45 for evening sessions.
